Empowering Parents and Reducing Caregiver Stress

This 6-week group runs from Feb. 1st to March 7th, every Thursday from 12-1:30 pm.

This group may be right for you if you ….

  • Are parenting a child (ages 4 to 11) who struggles with regulating intense emotions. These kids are often described as “highly sensitive” or ‘deeply feeling”.
  • Your child is struggling with mental health issues and you wish you could help them more with their treatment and healing.
  • You feel overwhelmed, burned out, and desperate for something to change.
  • You are coping relatively well, but really want to boost your strategies so that you can prevent issues from getting worse.

One of my very favourite parts of being a therapist is working with parents and seeing them grow into an emotionally grounded parent who is equipped with effective therapeutic strategies. I can make you feel heard, supported and reduce any self-blame you may be experiencing. My goal is to reduce your stress and increase your confidence.

Here is the plan for this 6-week course, based on EFFT strategies and hosted on Zoom to offer convenient access for a group limited to 10 families.

Three main themes will be covered:

A) Emotion Coaching

  • This therapeutic technique is at the heart of EFFT. Parents will learn a 3 step process to respond to their child’s emotions and behaviours.
  • We will cover how to emotion coach specific situations that are often the most challenging for parents, such as anger or hopelessness.

B) Maintaining leadership through limits and boundaries.

  • We explore the idea of authority, but in the sense of healthy, strong leadership that still allows space for emotion processing and flexibility.
  • Identify specific behaviour changes in your kids that you wish to work towards that are often connected to emotional well-being, such as increasing sleep or decreasing use of screens to cope.
  • Learn the steps towards those making behavioural changes happen, without resorting to punishments or rewards.

C) Repair in relationships

  • Learn how to apologize and repair hurts, from a place of confidence and strength, not shame.
  • Deepen the connection with your child.
  • Understand your own triggers and wounds.

What is included:

  • Weekly session from 12-1:30 pm on Thursdays
  • PDF guide about emotion coaching
  • Slides every week that cover all the important info being taught during sessions
  • A short video recording summarizing the session so you can re-watch or catch up if you miss the Zoom call
  • New! A PDF booklet containing 10 “scripts”, which gives you the exact words to use in stressful parenting situations. You can come back to this again and again to guide you when faced with challenges.
  • Peer support: the group will be small and allow for building some comfort. There is no pressure to share, but pauses will allow for discussion and working together to collaborate about interventions.
  • The building of new, advanced therapeutic skills, based on research and proven to help youth with recovery, reduce parenting stress, and increase parental empowerment.

$125 per group session
Total for 6 weeks: $750
